I have the options of choosing between UBC and UofT D right now, i would really love to live in vancouver for med school, yet i'm also worried about residency. If i wanted to match into something like internal medicine or orthopaedic surgery (although less likely), would it be difficult to match back to uoft? Any input would be appreciated!
Hi everyone! I’m currently trying to decide between UofT and UBC for med school and would really appreciate any input from current med students or anyone who has insight into either program.
I’m originally from Toronto, but I also lived in Vancouver for a year and absolutely loved it. I genuinely enjoy the city and could really see myself being happy living there again. At the same time, I feel like UofT may offer broader clinical exposure and strong research opportunities, and access to some incredible hospitals that are hard to turn down.
I think I’m struggling with balancing “fit/lifestyle” versus training opportunities, and I’d love to hear how people thought through similar decisions.
One question I had specifically for med students: if I chose UofT, how feasible is it to do electives in Vancouver during 4th year? Roughly how much time could you realistically spend there, are we talking a few weeks, a couple of months, or more?
Would really appreciate any thoughts or experiences. Thank you!
