Hoping someone can help guide me on this since I think I overcomplicated things...
I received a divorce settlement check in March and deposited it into my main checking account. I categorized it as Ready to Assign. Then I created a "general savings" category, and assigned the money there.
A couple weeks later, I transferred most of that money into a high yield savings account and marked it as a "transfer". This savings account is linked in YNAB.
In April, I moved some of the money from the high yield savings account to an outside brokerage account (not linked in YNAB) and marked that outflow with a new category "Brokerage Transfer".
I transfer money from the high yield savings account into my checking account monthly to support myself and categorize that as RTA, just like I do with my income. I was thinking I would update the "general savings" category with every transfer made from HYS to checking but maybe that's not a sound approach. My "general savings" category available amount does not currently match my HYS account amount and I'm not sure how to reconcile or just delete the "general savings" category, which requires moving things around a lot.
Advice welcome!
