First hole in 1. Torn
Today I hit my first hole in 1. Short par 3, I’ve been golfing for years although not regularly so I definitely know my way around the game but I’m also sure as hell not good enough to be taking routinely good shots, you know the drill.
Today’s round went really well to start, par, eagle, birdie, par, par, bogey, etc.
As a general rule I play alone because my course doesn’t pair me with randoms and I don’t have friends who golf. That makes this story so much sadder.
Anyway, back to that hole in 1.
Hit my ball, light iron shot, into a small hill that feeds into the green, right side water so the hill was the safe play. I see it bounce and roll and it’s nowhere near a hazard so, hey, safe wedge into the green.
Go to the ball location, no ball. I look everywhere, under leaves. Around trees, no ball. Fine I hit a mulligan from the last known position of my ball (I’m playing alone with fairly lax rules because I’m just practicing, after all). That mulligan does what I expected the original ball to do, light wedge into a foot of the cup, tap in. Hey there’s two balls in the hole and they’re both mine. There’s no way. Sure as hell. The original was in there with the mulligan. It doesn’t feel real because neither I nor anyone else witnessed it go in but, I’m riding the high until my next triple bogey.
