Hi everyone,

I lived in a condo unit for 4 years total. However, the property changed ownership in late 2024, and I signed a completely new 1-year Tenancy Agreement with the new landlord in 2025.

Different landlord, different contract, fresh terms.

Now I need to file a deposit dispute at SCT as the new landlord keep a huge chunk of my deposit for pre-existing conditions. My concern is that I've heard of cases where SCT treated multiple years of tenancy as one continuous contract and rejected the claim on jurisdictional grounds — even when there were separate agreements.

My question: since my latest contract is with a new owner (not a renewal with the same landlord), would SCT still treat this as a continuous tenancy from 5 years ago? Or would they recognise it as a fresh 1-year contract?

Has anyone been in a similar situation or have experience with how SCT handles this? Thank you!
