Materials that could be a perfume

Hello!

I want to ask what you guys’ favorite materials are that you were surprised by, and that could almost be a perfume by itself.
Or, Materials that basically smell like a perfume by itself.
For example, a few of mine:

- “Super ambers”.
I got a few superambers before i knew what they were and i instantly recognized that smell, and after that initial moment i now smell it everywhere. I appreciate the effect and the ability to blend them well, without going overboard and making a blend “generic”

- Damascone-Beta:
I immediately fell in love with this material, dark cherry/blackcurrant, with a slight hay/tobacco vibe. Also at neat it reminds me of an old summerhouse/cabin. Great stuff!.

- “White Musks”:
Musks (Habanolide, Ambrettolide, Galaxolide and so forth) were some of the first materials i got, and was slightly disappointed. Of course i couldn’t smell them or tell them apart. Now i love them and i’m striving to create a clean musk scent that encapsulates that ultra clean smell they have, similar to Silver Musk - Nasomatto.

- Para-Cresyl Phenyl Acetate:
Animalics hold a dear place in my heart, they soothe and calm me, while my girlfriend can’t stand them (understandably). So when i got this material i was also in love and had an “Aha” moment, a familiar smell of many animalic/urinous perfumes i have smelt.

Also want to give “Hydroxycitronellal” and “Coumarin” an honorable mention because i also just love working with these.

Just want to note that Naturals are practically perfumes in themselves and i wouldn’t count them in here, only isolates. Except for maybe Bergamot:))
Bases don’t count either.

Understanding ratios/blending

Hey all,

So I’m learning and evaluating materials in context with each other and wondering about evaporation curves, volatility and projection.

I get these all play a part of more “projection”, and as another user posted asking about how to make the perfumes more “perfumey” as in full, lively and diffusive.

I guess my question is, without learning and reading about molecular bonds and how everything interacts with eachother: does it just click? When you add a few components in the right ratio will it just explode and have a bunch of projection because everything sits in the right place in correlation with each other?

Of course i want to learn about all of this, but that takes time (which i’m okay with, learning is the fun part!). it’s just a question that’s been on my mind, i intend to dive deep into molecules, bonding, ratios, blending and all that good stuff.

Also, is the best way of learning these connections with type formulas? Or simply trial and error.

Thank you in advance.

How to use animalics (Too much?)

I had to Repost to add new pictures :)

Hey people!

So i’m quite new to perfumery and quickly learning the basics.

Recently ordered some animalic bases from Fraterworks and they are beautiful. I know Animalics are difficult to work with and i probably should’ve waited with buying them but i’m so fascinated by them that i had to get some :))

I’m still struggling with projection and balance, and still learning the materials i have but i just had to try make something with the Animusk Extra base.
Some of these materials i haven’t used yet but i thought they smelled quite nice together.

This is just a quick sketch of something i thought would work together and then ask for some advice and ideas/ tips & tricks on how i should use animalics and/or make it project better (not a lot, just more than 3cm away from a blotter) . Also thought a pre made base would be a little easier to work with since i’m just starting out with animalics.

I have Hedione (thinking of adding some floral aspects witch i think hedione would pair nicely with) and an assortment of musks, some synthetic woods ( Iso E, Bacdanol, javanol and real sandalwood EO i also think would go well)
But these are all very base heavy and meant for longer lasting effects,.

Anyway hope it makes sense. Thank you for any tips :)

(Amber Accord is just 9.68% Ethyl Vanillin and 0.32% labdanum abs)
(Everything is diluted in ethanol)
