Too much???

Today I repotted my hinoki from a big nursery pot. I found that close to the top of the pot the roots were spiralling, while half way down the roots were more free.
I kept most of the original soil close to the root ball, pretty much shaved it down to fit snug in its new pot.
I hope it wasn’t too much.

SUGGESTIONS.

I recently saw a post of an Alberta spruce bonsai, I fell in love with the result so attempted it myself. Bought a cheap one from Home Depot and went into town on it.
First time exposing deadwood.
Made my path carved it out and applied sulphur lime. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really hope it doesn’t die.

Repot came just in time.
I was noticing the buds slowed down the swelling process, then only a couple broke out. When I decided to repot, the roots were root bounding. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
