Does "introduce yourself to the professor on the first day" translate in online classes?
Title, but more context below: One of the pieces of advice I got in undergrad was to go up to the professor at the end of the first lecture, shake their hand, and introduce myself. For the most part, this advice was very helpful during undergrad - it helped me to have a face in the crowd, forced me to be accountable and pay attention now that the professor "knew" me lol, and made going to office hours more comfortable.
I'm wondering, however, if this still makes sense in an online graduate class. Since most of the classes so far have those introductory discussion board posts, would emailing an intro be redundant? Would it make more sense to drop into virtual office hours?
There is one professor where we do have something in common that she mentioned in her about me that I'd like to mention. But is it needed for every single one?
