North Face has closed most of its retail locations, it's where I used to bring items with defects. Even worse I'm sad to say their "lifetime warranty" is a joke.
What company lawyer decided that "lifetime" has switched from the customers lifetime to the "products lifetime?
Hahhahaha. Read that again. "THE PRODUCTS LIFETIME".
Why even call it lifetime? This seems like prime territory for a class action. The products practical lifetime? Who determines that? Just be honest please North Face.
Disclose the years under warranty.
I received this message denying claim for an almost unused Summit Series jacket that seams literally disintegrated because of "natural material breakdown"
"We’ve reviewed your item, and while we truly appreciate the care you’ve taken to contact us, we’re unable to approve a warranty claim in this case. Our warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship, but it does not cover normal wear and tear, aging, or the natural breakdown of materials over time. Because this item is outside the expected lifespan covered under our warranty, it is considered an aged product rather than a manufacturing defect- With the information on the style tags, we have determined that your item was manufactured in the Fall 2012. Under our practical lifetime warranty, this item can no longer be covered as it has served its intended lifespan. We understand that this item has been a reliable companion for many years, and we hope it has met your expectations in terms of quality and durability."
Anyway two lessons can be drawn from this.
Summit Series gore-tex shells will fail even if never used. The seams bonding is literally on a self destruction timer from the moment of manufacture. It's an environmental nightmare.
Times have changed at North Face. They are probably now run by some desperate private equity firm. Screwing their customers.
The takeaway is to steer clear of TNF and/or purchase cheap shells, as your lifetime has now become the hahhaha "products lifetime".
