The mental state transition is still happening, three years later
I’ve been retired for coming up on three years. I consider myself lucky because I retired when I chose to, and I had already thought quite a bit about what my retired life should look like. And basically on day 3 of retirement, I set about putting that in place. It’s been great, I have no complaints. I’ve kept busy, enjoyed variety, stayed connected socially, had some great adventures. I’ve never felt unmoored or bored or isolated or purposeless, and frankly I don’t think much about money because it’s now like air — there but taken for granted.
But a couple weeks ago, there was a subtle ratchet in mood. Just a general feeling of happiness and “things are going great”. It kind of took me by surprise, because I’m not really doing anything differently. Part of it is some kind of … release, hard to describe.
Anybody feel this? When did it happen? What did you notice?
