This has been going around lately here (and it's been in the American zeitgeist for a while).
Many people say the shooter automatically has the right to fire away. I was always told a shooting was only legal if the other guy also has a gun and you reasonably think the other guy is going to use deadly force.
Which is correct? Lawyers preferred, please.
Edit: My assumption is the homeowner comes home finds an unarmed intruder to the house, and gets their gun. This is not from an actual case.
