Lukewarm take

If we win Wednesday and Saturday this week, I don’t think anyone is catching us at the top of the west.

Not overreacting from a win over a struggling Seattle team, just like I didn’t react over Leagues Cup either. This is just my unbiased outlook on where things stand.

I just think with the minimum gap we’d have with those wins, plus games in hand, the west would (eventually) be won.

Time to start pulling away from the pack

With LAFC and SJ both losing last night, and with 2-3 games in hand on the other top teams, if the ‘Caps win these next two tonight and against Houston on Wednesday at BC Place then they will start pulling away from the pack at the top of the Western Conference.

Also Miami lost last night. That’s another big opportunity whenever you look further down the line, because you know they will still be the east favourites come playoff time.

It’s never that easy, but a great opportunity here 💪

I don’t know who else needs to hear this

We have lost 1 MLS game since returning from the World Cup. Hold up that index finger.

1

You can throw Leagues Cup and a CanChamp second leg game where we had a 4-1 lead right into the trash bin.

The one game where we saw the closest resemblance of our starting XI, we mostly dominated LAFC on our shitty turf and tied 1-1. And even with that lineup, we’re probably still looking at a couple more changes.

Like listen, we’ll need to start scoring more goals. Sabbi will be important. Bruno needs to come back.

But I do love the high standards for the club these days though, where this is being talked about as an insane rut getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup like we’re Manchester City. This is some big club energy now. We’ve come so far so quickly.

We are so damn good

Guys, with nothing to play for, we’ve outplayed a Tigres team with a shot to advance in their own stadium. Just think about that. This was a big time statement in the right direction from this meaningless game.

I could not care less what happens in this shootout.

And if we get Sabbi of late 2025 again, we are SO back. Good luck to the rest of MLS.

Remember how screwed we all thought we’d be without Ryan Gauld?

That turned out pretty well didn’t it. That’s a testament to the team structure they have. And now Gauldy is back and looking good too.

I’m sad that Berhalter is gone. But this staff has proven that they can get the best out of whatever players they have available. An incredible ability to make every player better. Guys like Larraz and Ngando are fortunate to have the opportunity that they have in front of them now, just like Berhalter, or Badwal, or Priso, or Tate Johnson etc etc etc

And I’m fully confident they will identity any additions they need. Once the dust settles this team will still be built to be an MLS Cup frontrunner. They have earned that faith, and then some.

In Axel we trust. In Jesper we trust.

(P.S. I still think in hindsight the midfield trio of Cubas, Berhalter, Vite was one of the best in MLS league history, vastly under appreciated)

10 Vancouver Whitecaps FC players to keep an eye on ahead of 2030 FIFA World Cup | Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Who’s going to make it in 2030? Obviously too late now but I think Blackmon got robbed this year getting Tim Ream picked over him. Best defender in MLS but the like 20th best MLS defender captains their team? Ridiculous.

So many misconceptions out there. This is a very realistic look at where they are in the league, and the standings are generally reflected by this, with a few exceptions of course. They still punch above their weight - extremely well run under Axel Schuster, but the investment has also been good since he’s proven what he can do.

Hopefully some new owners can figure out the off field stuff and see what a diamond they have with how the club operates on the field now.
