Book about teenage girl in beach production of a midsummer night's dream
I think her name was Jackie. It's fictional, but the book opens with the main character dedicating this story to her two daughters. The main story is set in the 90s in the summer time, about a group of kids in a production of a midsummer night's dream. They have a quirky drama teacher/director who makes terrible pancakes. There's a funfair on the pier and the main character works at the ring toss, her boss' name was Vinnie. They eat a lot of taffy. She has a couple sisters, one who does her hair like Cindy Crawford. The main girl gets the roll of Puck. It taught me the word rendezvous. It has occasional illustrations, most memorably of Jackie pretending that she's a fashionable Italian woman riding on her Vespa, when she's really just riding her bike to the pier. There's a bully character and Jackie fantasises about him breaking his ankle rollerskating. This was my favourite book when I was younger, and I remember literally everything about it except for the overarching plot and also the title. Author might have been a dude?
