I first saw eink while temping at MIT in 1998. We were supposed to be able to paint walls with it!

I’m curious about others’ earliest memories of the technology. I first came across it while temping at MIT’s Media Lab. I was mostly making photo copies and the like. But I shadowed a few tours with various founders and dignitaries as a runner, so I got to see some cool things. This would have been about nine years before Kindles hit the market. E ink really stood out to me. At the time they had a much more expansive sense of how it would be used. The entire sides of buildings were to be coated with it so that architectural elements and signage could be altered on the fly. And books, of course. I guess covering walls with it didn’t wind up being economic.
