EAC Migration - Our Experience

For those that are considering migrating to the newer model of EAC where the emails are stored in Salesforce as activities (instead of the old model where they were stored in AWS), I want to highlight our experience. Note that this is going to be forced upon everyone next year so I certainly hope they get this figured out before then.

In short, it was a terrible migration:

  1. 61% of all Tasks created ended up owned by the Automated Process User. We analyzed the data and confirmed that this was not due to inactive Users. There was seemingly no consistent explanation for why certain Tasks got assigned to that User.
  2. No EmailMessage records were generated. The entire new model is about a synced email generating both an Email and a Task record in Salesforce and there's nothing in the documentation that says the migration would be any different, yet only Tasks were created.
  3. It generated one Task per person instead of properly utilizing the SF feature to let you associate a Task with more than one Contact. So if a rep sent an email to 15 people, it generated 15 Tasks instead of one Task with associations to 15 people.
  4. Last Activity on the Lead/Contact records do not consistently reflect the Tasks generated during the migration. A small sample size indicates about 20% of them are wrong and pointing to an older date.

SF is investigating but I'm curious if anyone else has done this and how it went for you.
