Couple looking for games with a (light) story to play side by side "together"
Me and my boyfriend are looking for games to “play together”. But not necessarily in the typical couch co-op sense. I've tried searching for answers, but it can be hard without entirely diving into games to see how much depth they have.
It’s a bit hard to explain, but we really enjoy playing the same games side-by-side in the same room while sharing the experience together. We like games where we each have our own adventure and enough freedom to do our own thing, being led by the story progression. While still being able to talk about our progress, discoveries, builds, etc.
For example, we both played Pokémon Fusion on our own Decks, or the Medabots RPG game on separate GBAs, trying to roughly keep pace and chat about what happened in our playthroughs. The last game we did this with was Xenoblade Chronicles X.
For actual multiplayer games, we also really enjoyed games like OSRS, V Rising, Terraria (Calamity), Minecraft, Diablo 3, and Monster Hunter. Games where we can still move and progress somewhat independently from each other.
We didn’t really enjoy games like Overcooked, Stardew Valley, or Don’t Starve.
A little bit of story progression helps a lot. So we're rather not looking for free for all sandbox games. We tried it with some old JRPG's but they were too rigid to talk about our progress and builds. Though a bit of theory crafting about the story on the side can be fun. Now we're kinda losing steam on what to play next.
We both have our own Steamdecks, PC's, Xbox 360's, GBA's, DS's, Nintendo Switches and Gamecubes. As long as the games are relatively easy to come by.
It might be a bit specific, but does anyone have recommendations for games that fit this kind of game we're looking for? Thanks!
