Severe feeding aversion & NG tube struggles — would you recommend switching to a G-tube?
Hi everyone, looking for some advice and experiences from other parents who’ve been through this.
My daughter (former 27 weeker) is 10 weeks corrected (5 months actual) and has a severe feeding aversion. She completely refuses bottles now and since having the NG tube she’s stopped taking anything orally at all. She vomits frequently with the NG, gags constantly, and pulls it out several times a week, which has been really stressful for everyone.
Where we live, babies often stay on NG tubes for months or even years before a G-tube is considered, but we’re starting to wonder whether it’s something we should push harder for.
For parents who switched from NG to G-tube, what made you decide to switch? Did the vomiting, gagging, or feeding aversion improve afterward? Did it make your baby more comfortable overall? Do you wish you’d done it sooner, or do you regret it at all? How was recovery and day-to-day life compared to the NG?
We’re just trying to figure out what might give her the best quality of life and best support feeding progress long term. I’d really appreciate hearing honest experiences, positive or negative. Thank you ❤️
