I began having heart palpitations and chest pain in late October/early November 2024. This began shortly after I had an infection from a mole being removed and took antibiotics (cephalexin). Made a couple ER trips and was referred to a cardiologist where all the tests were done (heart monitor for 2 weeks, echo, ekgs, ct) and nothing abnormal was shown which helped my anxiety.

Eventually I learned to live with these palpitations but they are quite bothersome and scare me daily. Some days I have 0 some days I have 50-100 and it feels like my heart skips a beat, then pounds once after. Chest pain can feel like burning or aching and is short lived.

While I was able to live with it for a while, I had a few bad episodes: two were after using a hot tub (could be vasovagal), one was after the first day of school (yes I’m a teacher so stressful job), and one was a random Friday at school that I had to leave early for because I had constant palpitations.

Palpitations occur throughout other days no matter what I’m doing (standing, sitting, eating) and water/salt intake, increase in cardio exercises have not had any impact on them. Sometimes I feel like they worsen during my luteal phase. After the last event where I had to leave work I found a PCP who ran labs (everything normal) and had me go back to the same cardiologist. He prescribed Metoprolol 25MG at night to start and see if that helps, but the last thing I want to do is be on a beta blocker. No diagnosis and no reason why they started in the first place, but the timing of the antibiotics is the only thing that stands out. Any advice or ideas? I’ve seen many people have similar problems as me and just live with them but ugh

TIA
