Are diplomats part of the bourgeoisie?

Full transparency, I am a young person born to a diplomat father and doctor mother and often get into discussions with them regarding whether or not they are part of the proletariat, which I believe they are.

I know doctors are often part of the proletariat, which is the case for my mother. However, I have struggled to find much info regarding diplomats and their relation to the working class and capital. I did find an article that said diplomats are part of the bourgeoisie due to how theys serve to protect the interests of the bourgeoisie, I disagreed with that because diplomats have no direct relation to the means of production and how becoming a diplomat, at least in the country I live in (Brazil), involves a public entrance exam that is open to anyone that meets the requirements, and owning capital theoretically has no part in becoming a diplomat. While I do know that my father's job is effectively to protect the interests of the bourgeoisie, I still wonder who exploits them and how their labour is exploited. Thank you!
