So this thing that is on the side of our neighbor’s house pointed toward our backyard blinks red every night. It has been there since last year, but I honestly thought it was a motion sensor light or something (please be kind if that’s incredibly naive and please congratulate me if I was right).

My partner’s sister was over maybe 2 months ago when it was dark and the light was blinking and she looked at us and said ‘Do you know you’re being recorded?’ I countered with ‘Huh?’ And my bf was all like ‘Nope that’s not what that is.’ His sister was like ‘Sure lolololabhahahaha. DUH?!’

We are outside a lot in the evening bc we have a he/she shed so that we can alternate hiding from our kids while watching whatever the heck we want in peace. Away from each other also. And the whole time this thing comfortably blinks with it’s lens facing the strip of our backyard that catches our back door and who knows what else, I guess. We aren’t doing suspicious things, breaking laws, or being otherwise indecent. Maybe the bf and youngest have peed in the backyard but always under the privacy of the other side of the shed and its wooded fence line. Maybe I have too. Fam of 5, 1 bathroom, and a perimenopausal woman who very nearly dagaf anyway, who sometimes HAS GOT TO GO.

Our neighbor is prob in his 70’s and his wife passed away last year. We are a VERY young 43 and while I mostly hide from all interaction from other humans, except for and including our children, (severe and inconsistent social anxiety; I’m not an ass-hole) my equally introverted and way more neighborly bf of 20 years is quite friendly and helpful to the neighbor who’s name idk, but he does.

All to ask….what do u think the motion sensor light, with constant blinking red light (what I see) is? While my SIL sees a camera looking only into our back yard? And based on your answer (but only the camera answers) what would you do?

I’d also like to clarify that I’d rather bite my own tongue off than confront anyone, much less a 1950’s era man. Neighborly bf doesn’t seem too eager to have the talk either.
