Private Studio teachers who transitioned from a music school/academy, what was that process like for you?
I’ve been teaching at a music academy for the last few years to get my start after graduating, but I know that ultimately I’m wanting to go completely private, and I’m aiming to pivot in that direction within the next 4-5years (realistic timeframe because I also plan on going back to school for my masters next fall). For those who have also made the pivot:
-What made you realize you wanted to have a private studio?
-Do you teach at home, or do you teach at a venue?
-Which policy rules did your former school have that you carried over into your studio? Which policy rules did you dislike and don’t apply, or you tweaked it a bit to work for your studio?
-What is your holiday schedule like?
-How long are your lessons (or what are the different lesson lengths you offer), and how much do you charge for them in your area?
-What is your makeup policy like, or do you not offer makeups at all?
You don’t have to answer all of these questions, but some insight from others will really help. Thank you in advance!
