Claim question regarding MH

Looking for some insight because I'm pretty confused with what happened.

Timeline:

- Originally filed PTSD.
- PTSD eventually showed as denied
- I later filed Depression as a new claim, not as a Supplemental.
- VA grouped it into my current claim.
- VA then scheduled me for a Mental Health C&P exam on May 18, 2026.
- I completed the exam.
- The DBQ was uploaded and shows as received by VA.

The claim closed the morning after the MH C&P exam. A couple of my other claims got denied due to missed/canceled appointments, but my confusion is with depression/MDD.

Depression was listed under "What you've claimed" in the claim itself, but my decision letter says absolutely nothing about it. No grant, no denial, no deferral.

The morning after I got my decision letter, I called VA and the person I spoke with said depression wasn't denied, but because PTSD had already been denied, it got grouped together and I should file a Supplemental Claim.

My question:

Why would VA schedule and complete a mental health C&P exam if they already knew it was tied to a previously denied PTSD claim? Has anyone had MDD get merged into a previously denied PTSD claim and then get told to file a Supplemental afterward?

Trying to figure out whether I should file a Supplemental now or wait a few days and see if another decision appears.
