Good resources for learning how to use spss

Hello. I'm not sure if this has been asked recently but, I would like to get some recommendations on good sources to learn how to use SPSS. I have already gone through Andy Field's Discovering SPSS and have heard a lot about Laerd Statistics, but, they do not accept payments from my country, as such, i cannot access it either. Are there any other sources you would recommend?

Writing discussion in dissertation

Hello.

I'm currently writing my dissertation. One of the predictors I used in my research was Social Comparison Orientation (ability and opinion comparison) and my outcome variables was shopping addiction.

I ran my analysis and only found ability comparison to be a predictor of shopping addiction, as such, I'm not sure how to write up my discussion, because these variables have not been studied together much.

I would love some advice on what I could do and also, really really appreciate any insights y'all might have.

Thanks a ton!

Question about creating ranges

Hello! I'm doing my bachelor's dissertation in psychology and I've already collected my data.

A classmate of mine is creating ranges for all her variables by using the mean+/- standard deviation method.

I'm not sure if that's the best way to go about this. One of the scales I used in my questionnaire has a cutoff score, while the others don't have any interpretation tables that indicate ranges.

Please let me know what the most appropriate way would be to create the ranges or if that isn't required at all

Thank you!!!

How to choose what variables i should choose as multiple independent variables for a dissertation

Hello! I'm an undergraduate student of psychology and am planning to do my dissertation soon. I'm interested in studying a particular phenomenon as my dependent variable and I wanted to take 2 or more independent variables. I plan on maybe doing regression later, once the data is collected, but my main question is, how do we justify what variables we are choosing as our independent variables in our dissertation besides interest?

Basically, if I'm asked the question of why did you choose these two variables and not any other variables, what can I say in such a situation. Obviously both the independent variables are chosen on the basis of pre-existing literature, but there are many more out there, so why a combination of the two I finally chose.

I hope my question makes sense and that you can help me solve this doubt. Additionally, I would really appreciate any recommendations on books I can read to get better at my understanding of research and also my dissertation in general.

Thank you very much in advance!

Confusion with my research topic

Hello.

I'm currently coming up with my hons. research thesis topic and I wished to study Compulsive buying. Upon looking into the topic, I have found that there are 2 conflicting perspectives to compulsive buying. The first one being that CB is an obsessive-compulsive and impulse control issue and the other perspective is that CB is a behavioural addiction..both perspectives have their own support although, the behavioural addiction framework is currently emergent. For the same reason, I am unable to decide what framework to utilise and which scales to use. How do I justify choosing one framework/perspective/scale over the other?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

PS. I spoke to my supervisor and they don't know what way to go either.
