Farrimond Friction Hitch vs Adjustable Hitch Grip

I learned the Adjustable Hitch Grip weeks ago and it's actually my favorite knot. I often employ the slipped version of it as well.

My youtube feed has been giving me the Farrimond Friction Hitch, which I find more difficult to tie and it achieves what I think is largely the same thing.

I don't utilize knots that much, so adjustable hitch grip, both slipped and non-slipped, serves me just fine, but if it came down to it, which cases would one be preferable than the other?

The KPH40 retro is great. I reach for them over the HiFiMan Sundaras I have

Yeah they're just cheaper Porta-Pros with a headband. Threw some Yaxi Pads on there.

Pretty darn comfortable, easy to tote back and forth to work and plug into a BTR13. I use them volunteering at the library as well. After about 6 hours ears can feel a little sore on the upper part of the ear but that's wearing them straight for that long. They're so much easier to grab for than the Sundaras I have.

Bravo, Koss on your 40 year old drivers. Bravo Yaxi on your pads.

When I'm tying a zeppelin bend to pass time, I sometimes tie a different knot, and I have no idea how I accomplish this because it feels like I do the same thing every time. What is this knot and how do I wind up tying it? Is it the way it's dressed?

First two pictures are the zepplin bends, where the left and right ends criss-cross under things, where the second two images is the mystery knot where it looks much neater.

90% of the time I'm tying a proper zeppelin as in the first two, but every now and again, the second one appears.

Low substance post, but I just got into learning knots after learning a nail and bowline knot for making a rock sling. I've then started learning other basic knots and it feels so stinkin' neat. I really enjoy knots and am working on mastering a few before learning more.

So far I've picked up:

Of course, the nail knot for cinching down some straps for a sling pouch to keep an overhand knot from slipping through

Of course the king of all knots, the bowline for making a finger loop.

And then, from Grog and suggestions I've picked up:

  • (Double) Sheet bend for joining to cords
  • Clove Hitch for an attachment to a thing
  • Constrictor Hitch for a really good binding attachment to a thing
  • Adjustable Grip Hitch for making a line taught line a clothesline
  • Prusik knot for making a sliding loop on that clothesline or whatever needs semi-moving loop
  • Alpine butterfly loop for also making loops on a line.
  • Ashley and double overhand knot for stoppers

And now I'm learning the Trucker's Hitch and the double fisherman's loop and would like to really get down the Mathew Walker Knott for putting a decorative stopper on some nice braids I do as well.

I just think the whole thing is neat. And such a portable thing to have at work or with you, I just carry around a couple of lengths of paracord stashed in my back pocket. The sheet bend is like a fidget toy for me.

I got some KZ PRX buds as my first IEMs. Am I missing out on anything? I mostly listen to EDM-type music without much lyrics.

Went on a bit of an audio spree in the last month. I've been rocking a pair of AKG K612Pros connected to a iFi Zen Dac/amp V1 for like 5 years.

I saw a pair of Hifiman Sundaras for $93 and dipped my toes into planar magnetics. I also picked up a Fiio BTR13 to be able to have a portable DAC/AMP versus a DAP. Dipped my toes into 4.4mm as well.

Then, because I had a BTR13 I wanted to get something more portable than the chunky Sundaras/AKG so I went with this planar driver KZ PRX. I like it. I'm really surprised how nice things can sound for the $24 I paid for them. Whether I drive it out of my iFi desktop amp, the BTR13, or even just this no-name USB-C dongle I'm listening to right now on my work PC.... It all sounds pretty nice. The only thing that changes sound between all the devices is the EQ it seems.

I have noticed, as I have a high bass gain on my BTR13 EQ, that it can make the bass go muffled/distorted where my Sundaras and AKG do not. But similar songs on my desktop amp/USB dongle, not so much. So it may be a cross of limitation of the headphones and me just not EQing it right.

Now I really, really just listen to some generic house music playlists and EDM from youtube, both Youtube itself and Youtube Music.

There's some more expensive IEMs out there. Would I really notice anything? These PRXs are actually fairly comfortable and don't bother me. I got a cheap QKZ T1 cable, and then a KBEAR balanced cable for desktop listening or when I got the BTR13 plugged into a power source.

Low effort post, but I really like my AKG K612 Pros.

I've had them for like five years, got them used off ebay for $120. Paired it with a iFi Zen Dac V1 for also $120.

They are the most comfortable audio-producing thing I have ever worn. I can wear them from wake to sleep with no fatigue or being bothered. They sit so lightly on your head, just so gently.

They sound great to me and satisfy me well with EQ. I can use it for anything.

I recently got some HiFiMan Sundaras off of AliExpress for $100, and those have made me appreciate the AKGs even more. Those Sundaras are much less comfortable in comparison, but I can still wear the Sundaras for a few hours without much discomfort, but I do find myself shifting them around on my head. The AKGs just know where to be.

I think the Sundaras do sound 10-20% more "fun" with the bass end with the whole 4.something mm balanced jack. I'm no audiophile, I really like what I'm hearing out of both of them. But I got the Sundaras for more bass response and I got exactly that. The comfort is less than I was hoping for. But still, I still quite like the Sundaras. I put them on when I want to thump some tunes into my noggin. AKGs have been taken to work, running off of a humble USBC Dongle.

Yeah, my left ear went out a few years ago. I have damaged the grill getting it open with tweezers to solder the wire back on. Haven't had a problem since. Yeah, I'd like to change the actual headphone cable out for it to be detachable since I've run the cord over with my computer chair and the black rubber casing on the cable is split open in two places. Yeah the cord is kinda long which I only remedied in the past month by braiding it.

But god I love these headphones. I have no idea what the K712 Pros offer over it. I don't know how a headphone like these can get better.

I use my Sundaras for gaming and when I want to impress someone or myself.

But I use the AKGs when I want to just simply enjoy something for long periods of time and have a piece of equipment that can only add joy to my life.
