We told the travel agency that we wanted a "spa day", she misunderstood and thought we said "lava day." No regrets!
Isabela de island's lady sandy street Antonio Gil about yo meet the same "paved" fate. Any thoughts?

The Garúa on Sierra Negra is mystical.

What weather did you encounter on the volcano?
A few Redditors recently pointed out that many travelers don't realize horseback riding is even an option in Galápagos until they start researching Isabela Island or Sierra Negra.
They may be right. 🐎🌋

Beginner riders are very welcome. Kids are the day's VIPs. Join us, if hiking 16 kilometers round trip (10 miles) isn't an ideal vacation day. Off the beaten path and onto the horse path.

My parents visited Isabela in the year 2000 and never came back.
To be fair, they were looking for comfort, convenience, more restaurants, and a more developed destination.
Isabela wasn't their thing.
The roads were sandy, the pace was slow, and the wildlife was more interesting than the nightlife.
I loved it. They didn't. 🙃
Which got me thinking
✨ If you could do your trip to Galápagos over again, how many nights would you spend on Isabela?
More, less, or the same?
Why?

I'm a certified Galápagos National Park guide and I've lived on Isabela for more than 30 years.

Most overlooked must do experience on Isabela Island is Galloping Galapagos Horseback Riding Tours to Sierra Negra Volcano
Post:
Thought some fellow Galápagos travelers and dreamers might enjoy this 🙂
Galloping Galápagos and IguanaVille on Isabela Island were recently featured in The San Diego Union-Tribune travel section in the article:
“The Galápagos Islands: Learning to care for it, just like the locals”
The article talks about sustainable tourism, local experiences, horseback riding up Sierra Negra Volcano, and marine iguana stewardship here on Isabela Island.
Funny side note: the volcano completely disappeared into the fog the day of the ride 😂
So while the article beautifully describes the giant caldera, Mother Nature decided we would all experience “mystery mode” instead. Very authentic Galápagos.
For anyone researching:
horseback riding in Galápagos
things to do on Isabela Island
Sierra Negra Volcano tours
beginner-friendly horseback riding
sustainable local tourism
marine iguanas on Isabela
hopefully this gives a little local perspective from someone who actually lives and works here.
