I watched Wasteman last night, which had a very limited theater release, and I was throughly impressed

Just wanted to show some love to Straight Outta Compton. With the Michael movie coming out, I’ve seen the conversation about musical biopics resurfacing.

These movies are usually not very concerned with story, they just give you cool concert scenes. I think this is one of the few movies that is more interested in telling an actual story.

I wanted to love this film from the jump. I had a lot of issues with the Perfidia Beverly Hills character, and how it portrayed black revolutionaries.

I respected how well made the movie was, but I didn’t see why people loved it so much.

I just watched for a 3rd time, and I think it finally clicked. The movie is so tightly written, not a wasted scene. The editing is so good, and I see the nuance better of that perfidia character, specially when you consider you have other strong characters like Regina Hall, that more accurately represent the history of black revolutionaries.
