Women's fashion through the years!

This illustration offers a striking side-by-side look at how women’s silhouettes changed between 1830 and 1848.

In 1830, the fashionable shape featured enormous puffed sleeves, a relatively high waist, and an elaborate, attention-grabbing silhouette. By 1837, the sleeves had dramatically shrunk while the waist became more tightly defined, creating a pronounced hourglass effect. By 1848, the look had shifted again: the bodice was longer and more restrained, sleeves were narrow, and the skirt expanded outward in a smoother, bell-like shape.

Pretty cool, huh!
