Derrik Queen is 21. J. Fears is 19.
I point this out because of this odd narrative that DQ and Fears are "bad" defenders who cannot possibly fit into a Jamahl Moseley system.
They were definitely ineffective defenders last season. As rookies. As 19 and 21 year olds.
By all accounts, both are smart coachable players. The instincts are clear. The physical ability is clear. The effort is clear. The ability to grow and improve is clear.
It's beyond reasonable to believe that, under Moseley's coaching, both can become good, or even excellent defenders.
It's a bad idea to make firm determinations about any player who isn't old enough to order a beer.
PS: Same goes for the "Zion and DQ can't coexist" accepted wisdom. We have no idea where DQs game can go and how it can be meshed with Zion's.
