I used to be a hard-ass. But I have been giving students (first and second years in a universal pre-req) a lot of breaks the past two semesters. They need a C to move on, and I have been a little generous. Why hold them back? They learned, they just missed several smaller assignments. Or they were absent one time too many. Should I feel bad? I used to be such a hardass. (I am still challenging them, of course.)
