Hi! I’ve been looking into buying a plectrum banjo to learn some Dixieland standards as a hobby. I have a smaller budget and it’s been really hard to find plectrum banjos that I can afford (I feel like I can hardly find any listings to begin with) and I’ve come across dozens of listings of 5-string banjos. My question is, if an average 5-string banjo has 22 frets like a plectrum banjo, would I be able to put plectrum strings on a 5-string? I know that, for example, you aren’t supposed to put steel-stringed guitar strings on a classical guitar and vise versa, so I’m not sure how that rule applies to banjos. Thank you!
