Visiting Greece for the first time and the taxi drivers have been amazing! When I arrived in Heraklion, I had a hard time locating the suites where I was staying. Even though we found the street, the address they gave was questionable, and my taxi driver would not leave me until I found where I was going, even going into a store with me and speaking with the employees in Greek until they were able to explain how I needed to go down the alley to find my lodging and called the proprietor for me. Then in Chania, we could not find anyone from the company that was conducting my kayaking excursion, and my taxi driver once again would not leave me, going so far as to walk up and down the beach with me trying to find someone, and even using his own phone to call the company (my eSIM does not allow calls, only data), and allowing me to speak with them on his phone (turns out they cancelled the excursion and did not notify me). He said multiple times “I’m responsible for you. I’m not leaving you until you are safe and happy”. I have never experienced this level of concern from drivers in the US. Crete has been such an amazing place!
