Methylprednisolone Not Working?

Hello!

I am in the middle of my first sciatica flare up and it is brutal. I can’t stand up and walking is excruciating - I just end up hunching over and shuffling around.

My Dr gave me a pack of Methylprednisolone (4 mg) to take over the course of 6 days. Well, I’m almost through Day 4 and no change yet.

Does this mean it isn’t going to work? Does it just work really slowly sometimes? Can my Dr prescribe a higher dose?

I’m really trying not to freak out about all of this. Please share your experiences about this medication so that I can gauge how much to panic.

Thank you!

First Go ‘Round

Hello!

I had my first sciatica flare up on this last Sunday. I’ve been to urgent care, my pcp, and a chiropractor (twice!) in the last five days. The pain is excruciating, I can’t walk upright, and my foot is numb.

My doc gave me a 6 day pack of methylprednisolone and my chiropractor showed me some exercises. I don’t want to live in fear of this happening again, but I’ve heard too many stories of recurring or chronic sciatica and that terrifies me.

Does anyone have any advice for me at all? Exercises? Medicines I should try? Ways to avoid this happening again?

Thanks! 🙏🏼
