Just to be clear, I know this isn’t a place to ask for medical advice. I’m just wondering how other sinusitis sufferers manage things.
I have underlying allergies and have been getting frequent URIs and at least 2-3 sinus infections per year for the last few years. I know acute sinusitis is usually viral, so I typically wait for at least 10+ days without improvement before I go to the doctor.
This time around, I started with symptoms last Thursday or Friday and started getting better after a couple days. Mon/Tues it was mostly resolved but not 100%. Since last night, symptoms are back in full force and worse than before. No fevers but lots of sinus pain and thick yellow (almost purulent) drainage.
With things getting better and then a lot worse over the course of a week or so, I’m kinda at loss as to whether this is a secondary bacterial infection vs a cold that just won’t quit or two viruses back to back. I hate to waste time and money on a doctor visit if they’re just going to tell me to wait it out longer. But also I have a trip planned this weekend, and I hate to keep on suffering if antibiotics would clear it up.
Ughhh… what is your threshold to get antibiotics vs just continue OTC meds and rinses and whatnot?
