How Do I Unlock Comm Mode? / What is a Sweetheart Neko? [GUIDE]
How Do I Unlock Comm Mode? / What is a Sweetheart Neko?
I see this asked a lot, so I'll answer everything here so this question is seen less...hopefully. The game does explain the requirements in the most basic sense but I'll explain it better here.
To unlock Comm Mode for a Neko, they need to be a "sweetheart" Neko AND ALSO have at least stage 2 Limit Break.
For a Neko to be a sweetheart, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Read All Neko Story Chapters for the Neko.
To do this, you'll have to reach Neko Rank 10 to unlock all the chapters. To increase Neko rank, you complete the challenges laid out in the "Neko Missions" menu. Getting to Rank 10 is pretty easy, and can be or nearly be achieved by Leveling Up the Neko on it's own, but if you're not quite there on that alone, you can use them on a team a few times (or other stuff too) to get the last push to rank 10.
Note that some Neko Level Missions won't be available until you see their first slacking event.
Once you are at Rank 10, go through the story chapters, receive the gems as rewards (getting them is the marker for completion, in a sense).
I'll also note here that, for some reason, Neko ranks do not update until you view the Neko in the "Bonds" menu, so it's worth checking in when you see the "!", as that tells you someone's rank has increased. (Or also when it isn't there, as you may have completed missions that didn't raise your rank yet.)
- View All Slacking Events
Each Neko has 2. To view a slacking event, Go to the Area Map in your store. Among the delivery options, an orange cloud with a cat in it may appear. (I would post a pic to show this too but I already viewed mine for the day :P) Tapping on it shows a slacking event for a Neko you have. It will be random which Neko you see UNLESS you just got a new Neko from a trip, in which case you will see that Neko's event next.
There is a limit to how many slacking events you can see per day (I think it's 5, don't quote me on that). Once you view all for a day, you'll have to wait for the next day to see more.
Once you have read all of a Neko's story chapters, their second slacking event will occur the next time you trigger one. That's part 2 done, and the neko is now a sweetheart neko, you can tell this by viewing them in the bond menu, an animation will play with red hearts and a stamp will be applied. You'll also unlock additional voice lines on the main & voices menu.
To unlock Comm Mode, you'll also need to do this:
Limit Break them to Stage 2
This is the tricky part, as it mostly involves luck. To Limit Break a Neko to stage 2, you will need to acquire 125 Neko Pieces (50 for stage 1, 75 for stage 2). You get 50 Neko Pieces for a particular Neko every additional time you draw the them in a trip. So you'll have to draw them once to unlock, and then draw them 3 more times to get the required amount for stage 2 Limit Breaking. So that's 4 total draws per Neko.
For 3 and 4-star Nekos, this is fairly trivial as just doing a bunch of trips you'll get enough pretty quickly. For 5-star nekos, this can be a royal pain in the ass, especially for ones not available in any current trips. You can use exchanged pieces, but I've found it much easier and faster to just grind out trips and take advantage of special trips.
If you haven't reached Rank 10 with a Neko yet, Limit Breaking 2 times and Leveling them up to the max will probably get you there.
Note that the La Soleil Nekos (except Fraise) start with sweetheart stamps because...well the first 3 games are canon. Because of this, they do not have slacking events. So to get their comm mode, all you need to do is Stage 2 Limit Break them.
Also, I want to make clear, Neko Rank and Neko Level are 2 SEPARATE STATS, Neko Level is what you spend coins/royal fromage to raise manually, Neko Rank you raise by completing Neko Missions. I mention this because I did not know the difference for far too long.
I believe that is what you need to do to get sweetheart status/unlock comm mode, If I made any mistakes please let me know and I'll edit to fix. Hope this helps. Cookie best Neko.
