Gallbladder Attack: How much pain is too much pain? Going on 12+ hours
I found out I had gallstones in December 2024. Before that and all the way up until a few months ago, I would just get a little pain in my mid back that was usually calmed with a heating pad or eating. I still do not know if that would be considered an attack. But this year, gallbladder activity has been increasing. About 3 weeks ago, I woke in the middle of the night with pain in my back and wrapping around my lower ribs on the right. Bad pain that kept me up and super uncomfortable. It persisted the whole day, I put ice on it and sat upright as I worked. The next day the pain was completely gone. I guess that would be considered an attack.
Fast forward to last night around 3:30am woke up with extreme pain from my back to my front all along the lower right ribs (went to bed with pain too just not that bad). Around 5:30am there was a small amount of relief in the pain, enough to sleep a tiny bit and get up and start doing things like cleaning the house, etc. But around 1:30pm the pain kicked it up a notch again.
I've eaten 2 applesauce cups and a handful of blueberries today.
The pain feels like a displaced rib from the spine to the front. It aches. I can take deep breaths with just a little additional pain though. There is no other symptoms. Other than that, I feel completely fine. It's a bit debilitating, I'm sitting on the ground, leaning forward over a stack of pillows with an ice pack on my back.
I can't tell what's normal based off reading what people say on Reddit. Some seem to experience this and have many times for days at a time.
