I think it’s obvious this water heater needs replacing. But my question is, is this something likely to burst or leak bad immediately, or would a few days of usages “typically” be fine? It’s going to be a few days before I can get a new one in.

For now I turned off gas and water to it. But weighing out my options of: dealing with a wife upset about no hot water for a few days, or just dealing with a “potentially” flooded basement (Which is empty and I’ll keep an eye on and turn off at night), or worse? Not sure the problems could come of it.

If the answer is “We can’t say” I guess I’m not looking for a definitive promise. But just a professionals intuition.
