TL;DR: I'm putting together a peaceful protest in Anchorage at the corner of E. Northern Lights Blvd. and Seward Highway. I'll be there with a sign at noon this Saturday.
For those of you not in the know, today's SCOTUS ruling on Louisiana vs. Callais has neutered the Voting Rights Act of 1965. More specifically, they've made section 2 of the VRA, the section prohibiting any discrimination in voting on the basis of race, unenforceable.
What this means for voters in the lower 48 is that when it comes to redistricting/gerrymandering, their states are no longer restricted from drawing up new districts that divide and virtually nullify the votes of minority, namely black voters who tend to skew Democrat.
Red states are wasting no time in forcing their new gerrymandered maps now that they're no longer bound by the VRA. Florida in particular had their new maps passed by their House after just one hour, despite a voter-approved ban on partisan gerrymandering. The takeaway is this: Republicans are erasing decades of hard-fought victories by civil rights movement just to keep themselves, and namely the pedophile-in-chief Donald Trump, in power. They know their chances of keeping the House this November are slim and that a growing number of Americans want them out of office, so they've resorted to rigging the election before our very eyes.
We need to send a message to our congressmen in DC, as well as our fellow Alaskans that we can see what's happening in the lower 48 and that *none* of this is ok.
If you agree, please join me this Saturday at noon by E. Northern lights and Seward.
And to all the brainwashed MAGA trolls who are going to point out that blue states are gerrymandering too: 1) Republicans started this fight and 2) Democrats in Virginia and California at least had the god damned decency to put their redistricting up for a vote rather than undemocratically forcing it down their constituents' throats.
