I looked into getting a drop ceiling put in to reduce noise upstairs (there is zero insulation between floors) so I can install a surround sound. When I got quotes, they are all saying the ceiling height would be 6'8 and would have to cover the windows because of all the obstructions. That or spend a ton to frame everything in.

I'm leaning towards some sort of sound deadening and paint to maintain ceiling height and reduce sound now (in also replacing the terrible outdoor porch lighting)

It was recommended to use mineral /stone wool sound insulation, fill the side gaps if they are there with low expansion foam, and then spray the ceiling black.

I have some experience with that type of insulation from back when I was doing drywall work we used to call it brown death . If it's the same stuff I'm thinking of. Wouldn't putting that up in the joists and then spraying it with a pressurized black paint make the particles fly everywhere and just be terrible plus you now permanently have exposed insulation correct?

Isn't this a terrible idea? People keep telling me that the paint makes it so it's not a big deal especially if you don't disturb it . But I don't believe them.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations? We have to have some form of sound deadening because you can literally have a conversation through the floor , and I like surround sound.

Thank you in advance
