My main goal is to set up a server that I would be able to host heavily modded Minecraft servers for family and friends to play on. I also plan on putting together a rack mounted pc to act as a guest pc/ pc for my son to join us on from time to time.
Rack mounted units aren’t a necessity but would be preferred due to space constraints in the living room we play in.
I plan to have the rack set up out in our semi detached garage and have the necessary lines run through conduit between.
My main questions boil down to
- What specs would be recommended for hosting 1 or more modded Minecraft servers and potentially other games as well
- Any tips for having a pc mounted in a rack 50-100 (Likely less) feet from the “end point”
- The biggest stumbling block in my mind is mouse and keyboard connectivity over that distance
- Anything you lovely people would suggest to change how I might approach this
I’m sure I’ve got other questions and dumb ideas I’ve failed to mention so I’ll add them below if they come back to me. To be honest it’s very much a situation where I’m not certain of what questions I should be asking so please educate me
