Simple Tips From Current Visit on Transportation
I read tons on this thread here’s a few learnings I got from being in Paris, I hope this helps…
Bolt (like Uber in the US) had a promo for 40% off your first 3 rides. My wife and I did this and for getting around it might cost 4.50 on the metro for the 2 of us, or 6-8 EUR for Bolt with the discount for door to door service and usually quicker.
Day trips using the train. We are dumb and were looking at the coach number as the giant number on the side of the train…. Nope. There are relatively small LED boards on each coach typically by a door that shows the coach number. We also found people still in our seats a couple times. According to AI this is common people grab a seat to spread out. We just kind of showed our tickets and pointed and no issue they got up and moved… but it created doubt we were in the wrong seats as we weee new to this whole thing.
Metro tickets/fines. We were not caught or fined yet (knock on wood). We’ve seen checks twice. Basically you get off a train and there are 3 or 4 agents scanning everyone’s metro ticket. We bought the physical navigo easy card (not the one with the picture) and loaded it up a few rides at at a time. It was later I learned that you can use the Bonjour RATP app to check the balance of your physical card and to load tickets/rides on the card which is much easier/convenient than standing at a kiosk/machine in the metro.
Hopefully this helps some folks out.
