Simple Tips From Current Visit on Transportation

I read tons on this thread here’s a few learnings I got from being in Paris, I hope this helps…

Bolt (like Uber in the US) had a promo for 40% off your first 3 rides. My wife and I did this and for getting around it might cost 4.50 on the metro for the 2 of us, or 6-8 EUR for Bolt with the discount for door to door service and usually quicker.

Day trips using the train. We are dumb and were looking at the coach number as the giant number on the side of the train…. Nope. There are relatively small LED boards on each coach typically by a door that shows the coach number. We also found people still in our seats a couple times. According to AI this is common people grab a seat to spread out. We just kind of showed our tickets and pointed and no issue they got up and moved… but it created doubt we were in the wrong seats as we weee new to this whole thing.

Metro tickets/fines. We were not caught or fined yet (knock on wood). We’ve seen checks twice. Basically you get off a train and there are 3 or 4 agents scanning everyone’s metro ticket. We bought the physical navigo easy card (not the one with the picture) and loaded it up a few rides at at a time. It was later I learned that you can use the Bonjour RATP app to check the balance of your physical card and to load tickets/rides on the card which is much easier/convenient than standing at a kiosk/machine in the metro.

Hopefully this helps some folks out.

I know from this sub to use the official Taxi at CDG and did. We were on basically no sleep for 20 hours and I was punchy. Got in the taxi and saw him push buttons for a fixed fare. I was on the right bank and couldn’t remember the rate but he charged 65 EUR then added 4 EUR in fees. When he drops us off I pull out my credit card and he said cash only. At this point is when my spidey-sense was going off, but was tired and didn’t feel like I could fight it. He kind of pulled over in the middle of the street and hurried us out of his cab near the front of the hotel but not directly in front. So yeah I googled it after the fact and looks like it should have been 56 EUR for the right bank.

Just be more aware than I was. Normally I would have been on top of this but lack of sleep led to a bit of apathy on my part.
