Looking for somebody who may have experienced a frequent crash issue similar to mine....

Background -

  • Using under 50 mods
  • Latest dev build version of Mod Organizer 2 - under 30 mods
  • Creations - around 20 mods
  • Using 'Loot' for load order management
  • Using Steam version
  • Launching through Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) via MO2

Specs and settings -

  • RTX 4080 graphic card
  • 18 core/36 thread intel CPU
  • 128GB RAM
  • 4K OLED 240hz monitor - G-Sync & V-Sync on
  • Starfield Ultra settings - 4K
  • DLSS 4.5 - Model L (Ultra performance)
  • Frame Generation on

Usage -

  • RTX being utilised to around 95% during gameplay
  • RTX temperature normal at around 65 degrees during intense play
  • CPU usage of around 30/40% and temperature also normal

The game runs beautfully for me - smooth as butter and getting around 120fps as an average. A very pleasant gaming experience until the dreaded crash that comes out of nowhere....

The crash issue -

After around 90 minutes of flawless play, the crash comes out of nowhere and it's always the same -

  • FPS suddenly tanks to below 10
  • CPU usage tanks to zero
  • RTX usage remains at 95%
  • Temperatures remain normal
  • If I can make it to the inventory during this, I save and exit the game
  • Rebooting the game solves the issue (reloading the save without rebooting the game does not)
  • If I don't make it to the inventory in time a full freeze happens, where no buttons work, I can't get back to desktop and then blue screen of death restarts my PC. The latter is the primary concern as I could tolerate crashes to desktop - hard freeze is not good!

Never had this with any other game - including recently playing Cyberpunk with max settings, path tracing and all that. My PC never crashes under any other circumstances and is fully stable and reliable.

Question -

Has anybody else had this exact format and type of crashing? If so, did you find a workaround? A specific mod causing it?

Note - I played the gamepass on PC version a couple of years ago (unmodded) on the exact same rig I'm using now and didn't have this issue. However it was at 1080p with a different monitor.
