Hey there, just looking to proof check something that occurred to me.
Is it possible to use sulfuric acid and a nitrate salt (sodium, potassium) to safely develop a nitration mix in-situ instead of having to distill nitric acid first? The only drawback I can think of is solid byproducts contaminating the cellulose for flash paper, but given the fact that the next step is washing the cellulose, I don't think that would be too much of an issue.
In short - is it feasible for this to be done, assuming other safety precautions (cooling the mixture, face shield, PPE, respirator, ventilation) are taken?
