Failing grout?
Hello all.
For context - All tile installed essentially December of 24/ January of 25, so about a year and a half ago.
I had a contractor do tile throughout my house and all seemed okay, minus the fact the grout is under filled, at least in my opinion.
It's not flush with the tiles and is a little sunken in. Dirt collects in the grout but it's pretty simple to vacuum or sweep up.
About 8 months in I noticed it was getting dirty, and then that I had what seemed like scratches coming out of it, which were new material and clean so it stood out even more as dirty.
We do have dogs and cats, and aren't in a dirty area.
I tried cleaning it and struggled to scrub, so I used Bona tile and grout cleaner and with scrubbing it does clean up. I also tried resealing a test area after a thorough cleaning.
Well all of the clean area got dirty again. I was trying to figure out what happened as it shouldn't scratch up like that.
Well, taking my fingernail to it results in the grout turning to powder.
I notified the company within the 1 year mark and they came and basically said I'm not cleaning it thoroughly and it needs to be kept up with.
They cleaned some of it, and did some small repairs.
This seems to be the root cause of all of my issues.
I'm likely going to be elevating this with the company, despite this being over the year mark as it's already documented they came for repairs and saw the issue.
Give me a sanity check here.
