This New Yorker article offers a fascinating look into the making of Mulholland Drive - The Pilot
I was going to post this as a comment on another recent post about Mulholland Drive, but thought Lynch fans would enjoy it enough to deserve its own post.
Written in 1999, it offers a long-form, on-the-ground account of the making, and then cancellation, of Mulholland Drive, when it was only going to be a pilot and a series. Since there was no inkling at this stage that it'd go on to be one of the all-time cinematic greats, it's a fascinating time capsule of that moment - which also happened to be a turning point for the prestige TV landscape in general. In addition to detailing Lynch working on set and in the edit suite, I'm not sure there's a more vividly written account of his battles with the TV studios.
