Hi guys, I’m here to update you if you still remember me from trying to expedite my VAWA while in an extremely financial hardship and humanitarian crisis. The link above is my last post.
I still don’t have EAD, and my financial situation hasn’t gotten any better after applying for the benefits. I went to the department for the in-person interview trying to get at least an EBT card. I handed them all my paperwork including the Prima Facie Determination. Their supervisor told me that I’m not eligible to get any public benefits because I don’t have an EAD. So I asked them about the Prima Facie I got from the USCIS for potentially getting the benefits, and they told me that it doesn’t work like that after last July the Big Beautiful Bill Law came in. I must either have a green card or EAD in order to be eligible to receive benefits.
At this point, I don’t know what else to do other than waiting for the local congressman to get updates from the USCIS for one more month. Of course I requested to expedite my application with the USCIS and they never called me back. It’s been almost a month that they haven’t called me yet. Everything just doesn’t make any sense. I have 2 degrees from a top50 US private university, and my highest education is masters. I probably won’t even ask for any public benefits if I have already had an EAD. What does the immigration want people to do with a situation like me? I can’t work or get any benefits. My only source of income is old and extremely sick. How can I keep asking my sick family member to send more money to me while I’m not even able to do anything here?
Now, I have seen many news stories and online videos about the immigration process will be more complex and slower. I have lost my hope to even survive in this country even though my VAWA case is very strong…
