How does your school handle a pantsing incident?
My 6th grade son was pantsed at school by a child who was not his friend. Given that this child is not my son's friend, it was definitely not done in a "joking manner," and was intended to embarrass my son, which of course, it did.
The school did not notify me of the incident. This occurred at the beginning of 5th period, which is the second to last period of the school day. I emailed the next morning, and received a call a few hours later. The vice-principal was apologetic for not calling that day, and stated that she was "too busy." She also let us know that the incident was being treated as "improper physical contact," which confused me, because I truly thought it would be classified as an assault at the very least.
Due to my questioning of how the incident was handled, the principal is now involved. He has now stated that we were not notified the same day, as the office was not aware of the incident until the following day. This is in direct conflict with what the vice principal said, regarding being "too busy" to make contact the day of. Additionally, the principal has stated that we were not contacted bc my son did not "appear distressed." I have pushed the principal on that claim as well, because the only follow up my son had was the teacher asking if his pants had been pulled down. I feel that they may be trying to cover up how poorly the incident was handled. I truly feel they are trying to minimize this, and are treating me like I am over-reacting.
The child was allowed to finish the school day, after being removed from that particular class. He has been in school everyday since, so it appears he will not be suspended.
I would like to know, am I crazy to think that the school should have called me immediately?
I thought for sure this child would be suspended, but the school is not taking this as seriously as I thought they would. Is a suspension for something like this typical? Or what would be a typical punishment for a middle schooler in this instance?
