Hi everyone! I’m (rising 2L) wanting to hear anyone’s stories or advice on starting off with a solo practice. It’s a bit intimidating, but it’s most aligned with my future goals so I’m highly considering it.

Specific questions:

Did you start solo or work somewhere first? If you worked somewhere else, how long and how did the transition go?
Did you have a mentor/someone to consult with? How did you improve your skills as a lawyer? (IMO, the biggest draw back is not having another lawyer to bounce ideas off of/get feedback.)
Did you set it up as a non-profit? (I’m not sure if this is feasible, but my goal is to serve the gap between those who qualify for legal aid and those who can afford average costs.)
