Hi, so I’m asking this but I’m actually more looking for good sources? About a year and a half ago I read an incredible essay that went over how the transatlantic slave trade worked within Africa, and how the trade of labor force for luxuries weakened the economy. It was written in a less-academic style, I believe it was on a blog, but was full of sources and very well supported. It covered the way various kings and kingdoms reacted, the inter-state pressure that made some African kingdoms partake in the trade despite objections, and more. I don’t need the same article, but I would love any suggestions on similar readings on the topic? Ideally with not a super academic tone, I’m not a historian I just work in West Africa and want to understand more about the complexities of the slave trade and the continuing effects.
