Looking for some solid advice.

This is my first dirt bike and first time doing engine work. Bike is a 2005 Suzuki RM125. I recently blew the top end while riding, and I believe it may have been caused by a carb issue (possibly not getting enough fuel or a stuck float).

I’ve already Pulled the top end apart, Bought a carb rebuild kit, Picked up new coolant + transmission fluid While inspecting everything, I noticed up-and-down play in the connecting rod. From what I’ve read, that’s not normal (side-to-side is fine, but vertical isn’t), so now I’m trying to figure out if I’m dealing with a full bottom end rebuild.

Does up/down rod play mean I definitely need a crank rebuild or replacement?

Should I go with a full crank assembly or rebuild kit (rod + bearing)?

What kit brand to get?

If I’m already in this deep, what else should I replace?

Anything specific I should check in the cylinder before reassembly?

I’m also considering upgrading to a Boyesen Rad Valve while everything is apart.

Trying to do this the right way the first time, but still keep it somewhat budget-friendly.

Any advice on parts, brands, or honestly just general direction would help a lot.
