ADHD/Autism Assessor
I am beginning a career change and I would really like to get involved with assessments, it's a passion of mine. I am a late diagnosed woman myself and it's driven me to want to be able to help other women especially who get overlooked. I also have a daughter who was overlooked, even by me, because she presented differently to my very clear cut son (both now diagnosed). I just put this here to hopefully cut out the comments that I just want the easy money, easy ride assessor jobs that everyone wants. That's not it.
Anyways, I'm almost 50 so I don't have decades to wait for experience etc. I was planning on taking the RMN course so I could eventually take the V300 and prescribe. I had been looking at being an OT because of the hands on work with autism etc., but could not go on to prescribe via that route. My question is, is it even realistic with the amount of applications to be assessors out there, without having decades of experience? Job listings say 1-2 years post qualification, but is that really enough for them? I am planning on doing volunteering and work experience before and during my RMN program and equipping myself with as much knowledge as I can, but is this even a realistic goal for me at my age?
I had been looking at taking the psychiatry route, but at my age, not sure that's feasible either, by the time I get qualified and then have to gain experience, that's far too long for my age.
Any - kind - advice is appreciated. Thanks so much.
