Edit: the stairs access is on the other side of the wall. This structure houses the ceiling space so I can't just completely get rid of it.

I am in the middle of renovating. This thing is in my dining room, the basement stairs are inside of it so I can't get rid of it, and it extends underneath the window so I can't build it up. I'm not sure what kind of options I have. It's kind of become a catch-all and it's a rather large structure, 41"x43". Any ideas?
